Previcox (Firocoxib) is a COX-2 selective NSAID licensed for the management of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and orthopaedic surgery in dogs. It is a once-daily oral tablet with a palatable flavour for easy administration.
The approved dose of Firocoxib is 5 mg/kg once daily orally, with or without food. This is a fixed dose — it does not increase for pain severity. For post-operative pain, the first dose can be given 2 hours before surgery.
Previcox is available in 57 mg and 227 mg chewable tablets. The 227 mg tablet is scored and can be halved (≈113.5 mg). Approved weight-band dosing: 5.5–10 kg → 57 mg | 10–20 kg → ½ × 227 mg (113.5 mg) | 20–40 kg → 227 mg | 40–60 kg → 1½ × 227 mg | >60 kg → 2 × 227 mg.
Previcox is contraindicated in dogs with renal, hepatic, or cardiovascular disease, and must not be used with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids. Baseline and periodic liver and kidney bloodwork is recommended for long-term use. Minimum age: 7 months. Minimum weight: 3 kg.
